certainly not a nationalist. au contraire. i call myself a proud, rootless cosmopolitan instead. bezrodnyi kosmopolit. not patriotic at all. all nations are artificial constructs. sinkholes to steal the dreams of freedom and hide the puppeteer's threads. yet i am cuban. and the recent events in my beloved and neighbouring scotland, whose independence i support, made me think on what's to be cuban. and i remember one day. the old talkboards at the graun. talking to linda grant i recommended her a song i think expresses the quintessential cubanidad. the late emiliano salvador. vocals by pablito milanes. puerto padre
